Reports came out Thursday about a shooting at Kroger in Collierville resulting in 12 people being injured and 2 dead, including the shooter.
The shooter, 29-year-old UK Thang was a third-party vendor with Kroger.
Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane gave limited information on the suspect during the press conference, saying: “I’m not giving him notoriety in this platform. The suspected shooter’s vehicle is in the parking lot, and we are waiting on some additional equipment to get here to be able to safely check that vehicle, as well as some property that was on him.”
He did confirm that Thang is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while ten of the victims were employees of the store, and the other five were customers. The other victims are listed in stable condition.
Lane said investigators are planning to execute search warrants at undisclosed locations as part of their investigation.
The shooting at Kroger left Olivia King, an employee at the store, dead.
“Dear friends, it is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that my mother has died to her wounds. I spoke directly to the trauma surgeon. She was shot directly in the chest,” her son Wes King wrote on Facebook.
“EMTs attempted CPR until the hospital. They tried to save her at the hospital to no avail. I apologize for the graphic details, but this type of crime needs to stop being glossed over and sanitized. No one deserves this,” he added.
“We found people hiding in freezers and in locked offices. They were doing what they had been trained to do — run, hide, fight,” Lane told reporters, calling the attack “the most horrific event that has occurred in Collierville history.”
