Three Washington DC businesses affected by explosive devices and Molotov cocktails. Law enforcement Investigating.
Early on Sunday, a series of explosive devices were detonated outside three businesses in Washington DC, according to local law enforcement. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) reported that the incidents took place in the northeast area of the capital, with each explosion occurring within a 15-minute timeframe.
The first attack transpired around 4:30 am at an ATM connected to Truist Bank on Washington Place. Shortly thereafter, a second device was detonated outside a Nike store on H Street. Approximately 15 minutes later, a nearby Safeway grocery store was struck by a “Molotov cocktail-style object,” as stated by the police.
Fortunately, since the businesses were closed at the time, no injuries were reported. However, pictures shared on Twitter by DC resident Amanda Koski revealed the extent of the damage, including shattered windows. Koski noted that law enforcement had closed off several streets while investigating the incident. Another Twitter user, LaNita King, expressed her shock at the event, emphasizing the terrifying impact of the explosions.
Law enforcement is currently in pursuit of the suspects and the vehicle they used to flee the scenes. MPD clarified that the perpetrators seemed to have targeted commercial establishments rather than individuals from the general public. To aid in their apprehension, MPD and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives have jointly offered a reward of $20,000 for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the attacks.
As of Sunday evening, no descriptions of the vehicle, suspects, or motive have been released. Individuals with relevant information are urged to contact MPD detectives at (202) 727-9099.
