Meghan Markle had an animated series slated to release on the streaming service, but it has been canceled amid the company’s disappointing first quarter which saw a loss of 200,000 subscribers.

The animated series, ‘Pearl’ was the story of a 12-year-old girl named Pearl who explored the stories of famous women throughout history. She signed a $135 million deal with the streaming giant to voice the animated series and hoped to inspire young girls with “positive stories from around the world”.

The cancellation is part of strategic decisions Netflix is making around animated series, the company told CNBC. “Pearl,” which was announced last year, is among several projects to be dropped.

Deadline reports that the series was still in development at Netflix, and would have been Archewell Productions’ first animated show. Other projects set under the Archewell banner are still moving forward at the streamer, including Harry’s upcoming docuseries Heart of Invictus.

News of the cancellations comes as Netflix announced cutbacks and layoffs after the drastic drop in subscribers and stock price crash last week.

As the companies continue to go more woke, people are waking up and saying no more. How many more shows will be canceled in the coming months? How many more subscribers will the streaming giant have to lose before they see the foley in their ways and realize that what they are pushing is not what their customers want?
