According to Anthony Fauci, White House chief medical adviser, the US is no longer in the pandemic phase of Covid. More than two years after two weeks to flatten the curve was announced.
Judy Woodruff of PBS NewHour questioned Fauci on Tuesday regarding the state of Covid in the US as many people prepare to receive even more boosters and mask mandates are put back in place, or lifted in the case of Philadelphia.
“Here we are. It’s the end of April. It’s the spring of 2022. How close are we to the end of the pandemic?” Woodruff asked.
“We are certainly, right now, in this country out of the pandemic phase,” Fauci replied. “Namely, we don’t have 900,000 new infections a day and tens and tens and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths. We are at a low level right now.”
“So, if you’re saying, are we out of the pandemic phase in this country, we are,” he added.
But the health adviser warned: “We’re not going to eradicate this virus.”
He later told the Washington Post that the US is in a transitional phase.
“We’re really in a transitional phase, from a deceleration of the numbers into hopefully a more controlled phase and endemicity,” Fauci said. “The world is still in a pandemic. There’s no doubt about that. Don’t anybody get any misinterpretation of that. We are still experiencing a pandemic.”
“This is not going to be eradicated, and it’s not going to be eliminated,” he told ABC’s “This Week.” “And what’s going to happen is that we’re going to see that each individual is going to have to make their calculation of the amount of risk that they want to take.”
Even though he has been touting for people to finally make their own medical assessments he slammed US District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle’s decision to revoke the Biden administration’s extension of the public transportation mask mandate.
“The CDC has the capability, through a large number of trained epidemiologists, scientists, to be able to make projections and make recommendations,” he said to CBS News. “Far more than a judge with no experience in public health.”
As we move past the “pandemic” the newest variant that has been discovered, Omicron BA.2, the US has averaged more than 47,000 new cases a day which is up from the 26,000 per day in March. Hospitalizations have increased; however, deaths have continued to decrease.
According to CDC data, approximately 330 people are dying each day from Covid.
Per the CDC graph, this is a significant decrease from the January 2021 daily death peak.
“Overall, we continue to have some mixed trends,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said Tuesday on a call with reporters.
The current coronavirus risk, in fact, led Fauci to back out of attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this weekend. He said he decided not to attend “because of my individual assessment of my personal risk,” according to The New York Times.
Meanwhile, a study conducted by the CDC in January released information showing that those who recovered from Covid have more protection against infection than those who have only been vaccinated.
The CDC published data in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report on Tuesday. The number of people with natural Covid antibodies increased from 34% in December to 58% in February during the wave of the omicron variant. The CDC’s analysis didn’t factor in people who had antibodies from vaccination.
The increase in this natural antibody was most pronounced in children. About 75% of children and teenagers now have antibodies from past Covid infections, up from about 45% in December.
The high rate of infection among children is likely due to lower vaccination rates than in adults. Only 28% of children 5- to 11-years-old and 59% of teens 12- to 17-years-old were fully vaccinated as of April. Children under 5-years-old are not yet eligible for vaccination.
About 33% of people ages 65 and older, the group with the highest vaccination rate, had antibodies from infection. Roughly 64% of adults ages 18 to 49 and 50% of people 50 to 64 had the antibodies.
The CDC analyzed about 74,000 blood samples every month from September through January from a national commercial lab network. The sample size decreased to about 46,000 in February. The CDC tested the samples for a specific type of antibody that is produced in response to Covid infection, not from vaccination.
But does all of this data and Fauci’s remarks mean anything to the left? Apparently not to CNN who is failing at all levels at this point.
Coming on the heels of the failure that was CNN+, CNN is now calling Fauci a liar. Why would the news outlet want to continue the farce of the deadliest pandemic ever?
