Charges Dropped Against Michael Flynn

The Justice Department has announced that they are dropping charges against former Trump security advisor, Michael Flynn.

The DOJ concluded that Flynn’s interview by the FBI was “untethered to, and unjustified by, the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation into Mr. Flynn” and that the interview on Jan. 24, 2017, was “conducted without any legitimate investigative basis.”

Flynn had pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about having contact with the Russian ambassador prior to President Trump taking office.

Unsealed documents showed that the FBI had closed its criminal counterintelligence investigation into Flynn, but top bureau official Peter Strzok ordered it to be reopened. The FBI was going to close the case against Flynn because there was an “absence of any derogatory information.”

In fact General Flynn has been trying to retract his guilty plea since January stating misconduct by prosecutors.

U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan has been ordered to immediately dismiss the criminal charges against Michael Flynn. He had been refusing to abide by the Justice Departments ruling, citing the fact he felt it was politically motivated. Sullivan even went so far as to ask former U.S. District Judge John Gleeson to argue the point against the Justice Department.

The appeals court ruled 2-1 in favor of Flynn.
