Teens Charged With Murder After Botched Carjacking
Early last week an older Uber driver, Mohammad Anwar, a father of three who immigrated from Pakistan was killed by a 13-year-old and 15-year-old in Washington, D.C. during a botched carjacking.
The teens are each charged with felony murder and armed carjacking and are being held in custody pending their next court date on March 31.
The 66-year-old man died when he was thrown from his vehicle after the teens carjacked him near Nationals Park. The girls used a stun gun on the man and stole his car resulting in it flipping with Anwar still attached.
One of the girls admitted to D.C. police that they left their homes with a stun gun with plans to steal a car.
Anwar drove with them a short distance to Nationals Park, where witnesses and surveillance video shows the dark Honda pull over and an argument and struggle ensuing between the girls and the man, the New York Post reported.Â
Police believe Anwar had partially left the car and was wedged between the door and the driver’s seat as the teenagers allegedly put the vehicle in gear. It lurched forward with Anwar still hanging from it, officials said.
Anwar immigrated to the United States in 2014. He was a father of three and came tot he US to create a better life for himself and his family.
D.C Mayor, Muriel Bowser, posted a now deleted tweet on Twitter regarding the incident. She didn’t express sorrow for the senseless killing. She didn’t call for riots. No. She came out about auto theft and how the victim was at fault.
She victim blamed a grandfather who was an immigrant trying to live the American dream.

Not to be outdone, CNN referred to the murder as an “accident”.
