On Thursday, September 3, 2020, Governor Andrew Cuomo responded very critically to President Donald Trump’s call to cut funding to several cities his administration labeled as “anarchist jurisdictions” late Wednesday, specifically singling out New York.

“He can’t have enough bodyguards to walk through New York City,” Cuomo told reporters during a conference call Wednesday night. “Forget bodyguards. He better have an army if he thinks he’s going to walk down the streets in New York.”

Cuomo took to Twitter to continue his attack on President Trump. Cuomo handled the Covid pandemic horribly, allowing Covid positive patients into nursing homes, not using the hospital ship that President Trump sent, and being an all-around ass about everything.

After the George Floyd death, New York City’s murder rate shot up 59 percent in July compared to last year, and shootings spiked 177 percent. Meanwhile, the City Council agreed in July to cut $1 billion from the NYPD budget.

New York City receives about $7 billion a year in federal funding.

Cuomo’s comments received the backlash that was expected. A senior advisor on his team had to come out and “clarify” what Cuomo meant saying, that Trump is “persona non grata after everything he did to his now-abandoned home town.”
