Pennsylvania is Joining in on the Fantasy and Also Offering a Way to Change Your Current Gender

Announced today, Thursday July 23rd 2020, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, or PennDOT, is now offering a gender option for ‘Non-Binary’ on drivers’ licenses and ID cards.

This is the third option on top of the typical ‘male and ‘female’ choices. Pennsylvania is the 17th State to allow this choice.

In the press release today, PennDOT stated, “In keeping with its dedicated efforts to provide commonwealth citizens with fair and equitable services, PennDOT announced today that it now offers a non-binary gender designation option for its driver licenses and photo identification cards.”

The news release also explains that you can even change your current “gender designation” on your license or ID by filling out Form DL-32 and taking it to a PA driver’s license center. PennDOT has said that a signature from a medical or social service provider “is not required.”

Rafael Álvarez Febo, executive director for the Pennsylvania Commission on LGBTQ Affairs, gave a statement on this news. He said, “PennDOT is taking a very important step towards better serving Pennsylvanians of all gender identities. By removing barriers to make these changes, we are providing Pennsylvanians the agency to live their lives as their true selves.”
