Betsy Ross designed the original American flag in 1776-1777. She was 24 years old and, as the story goes, George Washington visited her seamstress shop and commissioned the flag.

Betsy Ross And Her Racist Flag

As time went on and America grew, more stars were added to represent all of the states. It became a symbol of freedom.

200+ years later and some no-name, has-been (never any good) quarterback has decided that the American flag represents racism and oppression.

How did this all come about?

Nike decided they wanted to sell Betsy Ross flag inspired sneakers. They were actually really awesome.

What’s the Hubbub?

What was Colin Kaepernick’s issue? The flag was from an era of racism and slavery. The flag that was created to celebrate our country’s beginning is racist. So once again, Nike is bending over and taking it up the rear because some washout is crying that he’s offended over a nonissue.

“Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured the old version of the American flag,” a spokeswoman for the company said.

Okay… well the flag wasn’t offensive during Mr. Obama’s inauguration. It wasn’t a racist flag then.

Betsy Ross Racist Flag Behind Obama

Well look at that. It’s right there. Behind Obama. Two of Betsy Ross’ original flags.

Not a Racist Flag

Those flags don’t represent racism and oppression. It was created as a symbol of freedom. It represents everything that the founding fathers wanted. Freedom.

Not to mention, Betsy Ross was against slavery. Much like a lot of our founders were. They just weren’t able to abolish slavery and bring everyone together at the same time. They knew they would have to slowly chip away at slavery.

Another fact about this flag is that the woman who created it was a business owner. That seems like something positive that could be used to bring people together. Even shut up the feminists.

So, shame on you Nike. I would have bought those shoes. They were set to be sold for $140. Not bad for a pair of Nike’s and honestly, it would have restored a small iota of respect for that company. Now? No thank you. You’re right back on that shit list.
